The Haiti Grass Project is planting deep-rooted grasses for land reclamation and reducing soil erosion. This program is achieving many positive successes, improving Haitian lives. Areas planted in grasses have remained intact during hurricanes. The grasses are building soil health, they are used as feed for livestock, they protect water sources, and are planted in contours along with crops such as beans and corn.
Dr. Fanchon Funk, a board member for the Haiti Grass Project and FSU Professor Emerita described the contribution and services provided by FSU faculty and students towards helping communities in Haiti as invaluable.
Seminole Solutions co-directors working on the Haiti Grass Program, Danielle Guenther and Jaime Bradfordexplained the importance of the great learning experience on international affairs and collaboration to solve critical environmental issues that this program presents.
The Haiti Grass Program’s ambitions are to plant thousands of acres of grasses in Haiti. We believe soil erosion in Haiti and elsewhere in the world will become a story of the past.
