Better Universe and Citizens Marches in Tallahassee Parade
TALLAHASSEE, FL — The energy was high and the streets alive with color as the annual Springtime Tallahassee Parade brought the community together to celebrate renewal, culture and civic pride.
Among the vibrant displays and enthusiastic crowds, the Haiti Grass Project team marched proudly down Monroe Street, representing Better Universe and Citizens and its mission to combat soil erosion and restore ecosystems in Haiti and beyond. The team included dedicated student volunteers from Florida State University’s Honors Program and several other departments, alongside local Tallahassee community members.
Dressed in bright green and carrying signs promoting environmental restoration, the group handed out informational flyers and samples of native grasses to parade-goers. This year marked the third consecutive year the Haiti Grass Project has participated in Springtime Tallahassee events. In addition to the parade, Better Universe and Citizens also hosted a booth at the festival, further engaging the public with their grassroots approach to global environmental issues.
Through partnerships with Florida State University and other organizations, Better Universe and Citizens continues to support on-the-ground solutions such as planting deep-rooted perennial grasses that stabilize soil and promote food security in vulnerable communities.
With cheers from the crowd and a steady rhythm in their step, the Better Universe and Citizens team embodied their guiding belief: “A better universe for better citizens begins with grassroots action.”
