The Haiti Grass Project is proud to announce a grant from the Rotary Club of McLean, VA, for establishing school-based nurseries in Haiti. The Haiti Grass Project, now in its sixth year, plants deep-rooted and drought-tolerant perennial grasses to reduce soil erosion. The Rotary Club will fund grass nurseries mostly in Carcasse, the Northern part of Haiti. Dr. Tawainga Katsvairo stated that the progress of the Haiti Grass project is encouraging. The initiative is expanding to different parts of Haiti and continues gaining more US partners. Current partners include several Rotary Clubs, Florida State University, The Good Shepherd Catholic Church, and Citizens Climate Lobby.

Pamela Danner, President of the McLean Rotary Club Foundation, reaffirmed the club's commitment to working with communities worldwide. The Rotary Club of McLean has projects in six countries, and Rotary International has over 1.4 million passionate individuals who champion change across the world. The 2023-24 Rotary year theme is "Create Hope in the World," and the Haiti Grass Project is grateful for the Rotary Clubs  supporting this cause.

The $2500 grant is being matched by funds from individual donors. Dr. Katsvairo explained that the nurseries would be established in 2023, and the grass would be transplanted to eroded regions during the rainy season in 2024. The project will be done in collaboration with St. Mary's Catholic Church & Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Barnesville, Md. Father Verdieu Joassaint at St Joseph's church and the University of Jeremie will help oversee the project in Haiti.

The Haiti Grass Project is continuously seeking new partners.
